It provides students with advanced knowledge in specific areas of public health and health science from a global context. The programme develops students’ ability to do research in the public health science domain. This entails the writing of a research proposal, applying suitable research methods, data collection and analysis techniques, to report findings, to draw conclusions and to make recommendations.

Successful completion of this programme leads to an IIE qualification.

    International fee per 48 credit points
    48 credit points represents a standard full-time course load for a year

Domestic/South African students are advised to pay 30% of their semester fee before enrolment and the balance by the published payment due date. Alternative payment arrangement can be applied for to pay each unit in full before the commencement date of the unit.

Payment dates are earlier if you are a commencing international student. This is to allow 6-8 weeks for your study visa applications to be processed prior to enrolment. To avoid delays obtaining a study visa, commencing international students must pay a 30% deposit before enrolling to allow 6-8 weeks for study visa applications and 50% balance on or before enrolment.

Entry requirements

Minimum entrance requirements

To be considered for admission to the IIE Bachelor of Public Health (Honours), an applicant must meet the academic entrance requirements as stipulated below.

Students who are or have been, enrolled in the IIE Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) offered at IIE MSA or a similar degree at another institution, qualify for admission to a fourth-year Honours programme provided that they have:

  • Achieved an ATAR of 70 or equivalent;
  • Completed a degree, with a major (48 points or the equivalent) in the intended honours discipline.
  • Obtained at least a distinction average (70 percent) in the honours discipline(s) to the value of 24 points at second and third year level, of which at least 18 points must be at third year level.

The student must thus have obtained a high level of achievement (normally a distinction average) in a relevant three-year bachelor degree or equivalent.

For non-BPH students, an individual assessment of equivalence of studies previously completed will be undertaken by the Faculty.
