The COVID-19 pandemic has caused both unprecedented disruptions and massive changes to education; however, students have seen themselves achieve great results despite the changes. The IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Accounting students together with their lecturer, Shaun de Wet from the IIE MSA campus in Ruimsig can attest to some positive news despite the change.

Two teams from the IIE MSA campus are participating in the Charter Quest CFO (Chief Financial Officer) 2021 Global Case Study Competition, where teams are competing in front of an international panel of industry expert judges.

Out of 2350 aspirants, 590 teams were formed from over 87 Universities around the world.  IIE MSA teams, Team ACE and Team Lupin made it to Top 15, announced in June 2021 and we are very proud to announce that one of our teams (Team Lupin), has made it to the Top 6 of this international competition, as announced in July.

Laud-Beau from Team Lupin says: “The journey we undertook in becoming the only South African team in the top 6 among 590 teams, and over 87 universities globally for the annual Charter Quest CFO 2021 Global Case Study Competition has been astonishing to say the least, despite our semester assessments we had to complete, in conjunction with the competition to ensure that we successfully pass this already challenging semester. The accomplishment means the world to us because it further justifies why the IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Accounting (PGDFA) programme is invaluable.”

The CFO (Chief Financial Officer) is an annual, open-entry, and global multi-stage business strategy and leadership-focused case study competition. It challenges university students around the world to prove they can compete at the highest level: by solving a set of complex and integrated finance, operational, strategic, and ethical problems that beset a real-world global business in the emerging markets. (source:http://www.charterquest.co.za/the-cfo#homepage/)

This is the third year that the Postgraduate Diploma is presented, and the third year that we have a team in the Top 15, and now taking the next step to be in Top 6.  It not only indicates the quality and competitiveness of the programme, but also the passion, commitment, and excellence of the lecturers at IIE MSA.

“Over and above wanting to become professional management accountants whose qualification is globally recognised, we specifically chose this programme because we identified that the IIE Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Accounting offered at IIE MSA was directly aligned to the CIMA syllabus, as well as offering us the opportunity to gain credits from which we could use to accelerate our pursuit of gaining the ACMA GCMA (Associate Chartered Management Accountant Global Chartered Management Accountant) acronyms behind our names. We are incredibly appreciative to have been given the necessary support by our lecturers/mentors and the campus to seize the opportunity that is the Charter Quest CFO Global Case Study Competition, and very proud to be representing South Africa at the competition.” Nomvuyo from Team Lupin adds.

At IIE MSA, we would like to wish Team Lupin well for the next round of the competition.
