I have worked as a research intern in the Corruption and Governance programme, and also as a consultant under the Organised Crime and Money Laundering programme, both for the Institute for Security Studies in Cape Town between 2009 and 2010. I have also been called upon by the Western Cape Provincial Government to assist in mediation processes following the 2008 xenophobic attacks that occurred across the country in that year. I have lectured part time at the University of Cape Town a guest lecturer on national liberation movements in Southern Africa, covering South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Mozambique. I have also lectured at Varsity College, Cape Town, Rondebosch Campus, teaching Criminology from 2011 – 2012.  I joined Monash South Africa in May 2012 as a sessional lecturer and was appointed on a full time basis from July 2012. I have often been called upon by various media organisations, print and broadcast, to give commentary and expert analysis on matters within the South African criminal justice system. These include issues of crime, policing, xenophobia, medical parole and high profile criminal court cases, which form part of my research interests. I am currently in the process of registering for his PhD, focussing on the relationship between immigration and the criminal justice system in South Africa.
