Wendy Baumgartner is a lecturer and the coordinator of the Business Algebra Unit and has been in this position for the past four years where she has lectured components and applications of algebra to students in the Foundation Programme. The Foundation Programme assists students who require the unit to articulate to select undergraduate studies.
Wendy is motivated by her passion to empower students and assist them to understand and enjoy algebra so that they will not only study it, but also understand how it fits in their chosen career. She says she feels a sense of fulfilment and excitement when her students “get it” and her most important contribution is changing her student’s attitude towards mathematics – from hate to love. “I also feel a sense of accomplishment when I have equipped every student entrusted in my care with the ability to reach their personal academic expectancy”, she adds.
Wendy obtained her qualifications at various institutions such as the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of South Africa, GIBS and University of Johannesburg and has enjoyed all of these for different reasons. In the early stages of her career at Monash South Africa she worked as the teacher and student support officer. Having also worked in the training industry, Wendy loves the Monash South Africa environment and the opportunities available to grow.
