The module prepares the student for practice. Together with the theory module on supervision and leadership, this module provides an opportunity for the student to apply solutions learned within a practice context. The third and fourth levels of a civically engaged student are competence and culmination. In this module the student will extend their mentoring skills to the community.


  • Engage in a reciprocal partnership (service-learning) with an organisation in the community.
  • Identify and meet needs through a mentoring relationship.
  • Implement best practice models to solve identified problems.

Examination/Summative assessment: 50%

Workload requirements

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this module is 50 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The module requires on average one/two hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
